Notes for ABRAHAM REDWOOD:

Owned a large sugar plantation in Antigua, known as Cassada Garden, removed to the New England colonies in 1712; lived in Salem, Mass., and Newport, R.I., and died at Salem in 1728.

3. ABRAHAM3 REDWOOD (ABRAHAM2, ABRAHAM1) was born 1710 in Antigua, W.I, and died March 06, 1788 in Newport, RI. He married MARTHA COGGESHALL 1730.

Notes for ABRAHAM REDWOOD:

Abraham, Jr., attended the schools of Philadelphia, and in 1727 settled on his father's estate at Portsmouth, R.I., known as Redwood farm, which came into his possession on the death of his elder brother, Jonas Langford Redwood. He there cultivated rare plants, shrubs and trees. He gave £500 for the purchase in London of standard books, and in 1750 the Redwood Library company, Newport, was formed, and an edifice was built. During the Revolutionary was a Large number of the volumes in the library were destroyed, but these were afterward replaced. He also gave £500 to the Society of Friends, of which he was a member for the establishment of a school in Newport, and a like sum to found Friends school in Providence, organized, 1784, long conducted by Augustine Jones (q.v.).  From the History of Redwood Library.

4. WILLIAM3 REDWOOD (ABRAHAM2, ABRAHAM1) was born December 21, 1726 in Salem, MA, and died January 16, 1815 in Burlington, NJ. He married HANNAH HOLMES November 07, 1754 in Newport,Rhode Island, daughter of SAMUEL HOLMES.

Became a benefactor of the Redwood library, and his coat of arms and portrait are on the walls of the library building.

6. HANNAH4 REDWOOD (WILLIAM3, ABRAHAM2, ABRAHAM1) was born September 25, 1759 in Newport, RI, and died April 11, 1796 in Philadelphia, PA. She married CHARLES WHARTON October 13, 1784 in Friends Meeting House, son of JOSEPH WHARTON and HANNAH CARPENTER.
